History of Polen Farm
According to a Dayton Daily News article, the property that is today called Polen Farm (5099 Bigger Rd.) was first developed by Joseph Bigger in 1854 when he called it White Oak Farm. The grandfather of Joseph Bigger (of the same name) served in the Revolutionary War and eventually moved to Montgomery County thereby claiming land as a result of his service. The grandson, Joseph Bigger, passed in 1908 and his daughter Cora Bigger Walcut kept the house until 1940. She sold the house and property to Russell V. Pollen who was a General Motors/ Frigidaire executive. During his tenure, he improved the property, expanded it by 15 acres of adjacent property, and repaired the barn. Upon his death, his estate transferred the property to the City of Kettering in 1979. In 1996, the City of Kettering remodeling the property as we see it today.
