At the heart of downtown, RiverScape MetroPark brings together river, skyline, and civic history in one of the most recognizable landscapes in the Miami Valley. I often call scenes from this setting Daytonscapes… images where the city skyline, fountains, and riverfront come together as the defining subject. A Riverfront That Tells Dayton’s Story

Formerly known as Van Cleve Park, RiverScape sits along the Great Miami River where Dayton first took root. Today the park connects people to the water through trails, gathering spaces, and sweeping skyline views. Along the Dayton Inventors River Walk, sculptures honor innovators like Charles Kettering, Joseph Desch, and Ermal Cleon Fraze, reminding visitors that Dayton’s legacy of invention flows as strongly as the river beside it.

RiverScape also marks an important chapter in the region’s river restoration. Former low dams were transformed into kayak chutes, returning movement and recreation to the water while reconnecting the city to its natural corridor.
