Armstrong Air & Space Museum

The Creation of Armstrong Air & Space Museum

Armstrong Air and Space Museum resides in Wapakoneta, Ohio and opened on 20 July 1972, three years to the day after Neil Armstrong set foot on the Moon.  Ohio, and particularly Wapakoneta, wanted to celebrate the first man on the moon, so the city through a series of fundraising events matched by the Ohio Governor raised the money to building a museum which pays tributes to another Ohio hero.  The opening ceremony was attended by Armstrong, his family and President Richard Nixon.  Reportedly 10,000 people attended the opening.

A Treasure Trove of Space Exploration
