Lance-leaf Coreopsis

The Lance-leaf Coreopsis (Coreopsis lanceolata L.) is a member of the Aster family (Asteraceae).  There are several common names referring to the same species such as Lance-leaved Coreopsis, Lanceleaf Tickseed, and Sand Coreopsis.  Each yellow petal has three deep cuts giving the appearance of 3 leaflets.  The centers of the Lance-leaf Coreopsis are yellow with the classic aster trademark.  Most of the time, this flower grows in small clumps, but in one magical year, our nearby Morris Reserve experienced a super bloom filling the 100-acre park with bright yellow flowers.
