Delco Park – A Legacy of Charles F. Kettering in Kettering Ohio

Delco Park spans 120 acres in the heart of Kettering and traces its origins to the Delco Sportsman’s Club, founded in 1953 by inventor and industrialist Charles F. Kettering. As founder of Delco Electronics, a division of General Motors, Kettering believed strongly in supporting the well-being of employees. The recreational club he established beside the Delco plant offered fishing, hunting, and outdoor fellowship. When General Motors left the region in the early 1990s, Virginia Kettering advocated for the preservation of the land, leading to its donation to the City of Kettering. Today, Delco Park stands as a lasting tribute to innovation, generosity, and community stewardship.

Landmarks and Features of Delco Park

  • Kettering Veterans Memorial: Unveiled in 2016, this memorial honors those who have served the nation. Five granite markers rise from a large brick star beneath a series of flagpoles representing the branches of military service.
  • Charles F. Kettering History Walk: A self-guided interpretive path sharing the story of Kettering’s inventions and impact on American industry, thoughtfully placed throughout the park grounds.
  • Delco Park Lake: A central lake bordered by a walking path, fishing dock, and large pavilion… offering reflective water views under open Ohio skies.
  • Iron Horse Trail: A paved path winding through shaded groves and open green space, connecting visitors to the park’s lake and recreation fields.
  • Rock Waves Sculpture: Part of the Kettering Rocks! public art initiative, this sculptural installation greets visitors near the lake and pavilion… echoing the movement of water and adding artistic character to the landscape.
