Grayhead Coneflower

Greyhead Coneflower (Ratibida pinnata) belongs to the Aster family (Asteraceae).  This species has several other common names such as Gray-headed Coneflower, Grayhead Mexican Hat, Gray-headed Mexican Hat, Pinnate Prairie Coneflower, and Yellow Coneflower.  This flower’s distinctive drooping yellow petals around a greyish brown cone.  The Greyhead Coneflower maintains a healthy population in my closest park, Morris Reserve, near Bellbrook, Ohio.
