Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe resides in Carbon County, Pennsylvania, but the town was first named Mauch Chunk in 1818.  Following the death of Jim Thorpe, the town of Mauch Chunk, renamed itself after local Olympian Jim Thorpe who grew up in the local area.  His wife, wanting to look after his legacy, agreed to inter his body in town which has resulted in disagreement with serving relatives of the Sac and Fox Nation.
