National Memorial Arch, Valley Forge National Historical Park No. 6

The Story:      The National Memorial Arch is dedicated to the soldiers of the Continental Army encamped at Valley Force 19 December 1977 to 19 June 1778. Inspired by the Triumphal Art of Titus in Rome, Paul Philippe Cret created a 60-foot-tall tribute to George Washington and his army. Dedicated during WWI, the memorial was erected during a period of patriotism during difficult times. On this autumn day, the National Memorial Arch basks under blue skies 245 years after the Continental Army emerged from its winter camp better trained and with renewed spirit.
