Vermillion Cliffs National Monument

Vermilion Cliffs National Monument was created in the year 2000 from 300,000 acres of Coconino County, Arizona.  The scarlet red (or vermilion-colored) cliffs line US 89A as it runs between the Navajo Bridge and Jacob Lake, AZ.  The next 12 miles of this road insidiously climb 2,500, but under the open skies and distant horizons, one never notices the change in elevation along this open highway.
