The History of Glenwood Gardens
Before Glenwood Gardens became a public park under the Great Parks of Hamilton County system, it was farmland. The land was purchased in 1936 by William and Mary J. Burchenal. Mary was the great granddaughter of William Procter (cofounder of Procter & Gamble Co.). The 360-acre parcel served as a working farm where they raised Black Angus cattle and grew corn and soybeans. The farm got its name from the rolling hills of England's Cotswold region. When Mary passed away in 1993, she donated the home and 11 acres to the county where the park has since grown.
