Fountain Square

History of Fountain Square

Tyler Davidson Fountain

The centerpiece of Fountain Square is the Tyler Davidson Fountain, formally named "The Genius of Water."  This bronze fountain was a gift to the city by Henry Probasco, a prominent Cincinnati businessman, in honor of his brother-in-law, Tyler Davidson.   Created by German sculptor August von Kreling, the fountain’s design represents the life-giving properties of water.  At its pinnacle, a towering figure of a woman, symbolizing water’s generosity, stretches her arms outward, offering water to all.

The fountain's intricate details, such as figures of children, farmers, and craftsmen benefiting from water, resonate deeply with Cincinnati’s hardworking and community-oriented spirit.
