Greenville

Founded in 1808, Greenville was named after General Nathanael Greene, a hero of the Revolutionary War.  Starting as a military fort during the American Frontier, Fort Greene Ville was the largest wooden fortification ever built.  As a result of its status, it witnessed various historical events such as site of the Treaty of Greenville in 1795, which helped end the Northwest Indian War and opened up much of Ohio to American settlers.  It also played a role in the War of 1812 and its development as a hub for agriculture and industry in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
