Water Lilies are aquatic flowering plants and part of the Nymphaeaceae family. The typi8cally have roots in the soil while their leaves and flowers float on the water surface. This gallery features two found in Ohio’s ponds.
Sacred Lotus Prints
Sacred Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) is located in nearby wetlands in Butler County, Ohio. Though once in the same family as water lilies, they now reside in the Nelumbonaceae family. These wetlands are surrounded by a dense ring of cattails to access a line of sight proved to be a challenge.
American White Waterlily
American White Waterlily (Nymphaea odorata) along with their lily pads which exist in local state wildlife reserves.
