Print Care

Hanging Guidlines

In museum and gallery settings, the center of the artwork is usually placed at 60 inches from the floor—a height that aligns with the average eye level. That’s a great rule of thumb for home and office spaces, too.

Of course, every room is different. A few things to consider:

  • In meeting rooms, think about people standing along the walls—hang a little higher if needed.
  • In hallways or shared workspaces, aim for visibility over furniture or partitions.
  • When hanging above furniture, place the bottom of the frame 6–8 inches above the piece (sofa, console, desk, etc.) for a clean and balanced look.

Cleaning Guidelines

Your cleaning method will depend on the print medium. Less is more when it comes to caring for fine art.

  • Canvas Prints: Use a soft duster with no chemicals, waxes, or sprays. Avoid applying any pressure or moisture.
  • Metal Prints: Gently remove fingerprints with a microfiber cloth. If needed, a touch of moisture from your breath is usually enough.
  • Framed Paper Prints (with glass): Use a clean microfiber cloth and avoid spray cleaners. Liquids can seep beneath the glass and harm the artwork.

🧼 When in doubt—light touch, dry cloth, no chemicals.

Environmental Considerations

Fine art, like most beautiful things, thrives in the right environment.

  • Avoid direct sunlight. UV rays will fade colors over time, even with modern coatings. A photo can lose its vibrancy in just a few short years if exposed constantly.
  • Watch for humidity. Avoid hanging your print in bathrooms or damp environments. Humidity can cause warping, mold, or damage to the materials over time.
  • Be cautious with metal prints on wood backings. While I don’t use them, some manufacturers float metal prints using wood mounts. Over time, wood expands and contracts at a different rate than metal—leading to potential warping or separation.

🌤️ Treat your print like a living thing—it appreciates calm, dry air and a little bit of shade.
