Old Barn near Meadow Ridge Lake No. 1
The Story: In 1963, City of Middletown Ohio pondered the possibilities of a large park west of town to preserve green space around the growing city. By 1971, the 36-hole Weatherwax Golf Course opened, winning state and national recognition for its design. In 2016 and due to changing community needs the course became part of Elk Creek MetroPark. At just short of 800 acres, the park is now the largest in MetroParks of Butler County Park System. On this late summer morning, Meadow Ridge Lake perfectly reflects an old barn that has witnessed the land’s many transitions.
The Rest of the Story: This was my first trip to this Meadow Ridge Lake. As with most of 2023, our skies this summer were largely opaque with smoke coming from Canada and the northwest US. On this morning a band of clear air floated over the Miami Valley. A second piece of good fortune lies in the late onset of the summer breeze. In fact, a few minutes after capturing this scene, the daily breeze started breaking up this perfect reflection. I cherish this image for the morning golden light, the blue skies and calm winds.
I have more local scenes under my MetroParks of Butler County Art Print Gallery as well as more nostalgic scenes under my Barn Art Prints.
