Statue of Lincoln at Lytle Park No. 3
The Story: The statue of Abraham Lincoln in Lytle Park was commissioned by Charles P. Taft (half-brother to the President) and created by George Grey Barnard. The sculpture experienced some notoriety for Barnard used a facial life mask made of Lincoln 5 years before his assassination as well as existing molds from Lincoln’s hands. Some people including Lincoln’s son felt the features were too exaggerated and the statue’s disheveled clothes. Today, it lies next to the Ohio River on the land owned by Ohio’s first surveyor.
