Brush Creek Falls in Autumn No. 7
The Story: As Brush Creek flows into the Bluestone River, the creek spills over various rock formations. Waterfalls form when erosion-resistant layers lay on top of weaker rock layers. Brush Creek Falls is named after the most prominent drops. On this autumn day, leaves that washed into Brush Creek gather in an eddy below falls. A long exposure technique produced an interesting composition.
The Rest of the Story: This peaceful park was a pleasure to explore. Although I normally like shooting in the bright light, this dreary scene and its flat light made the color of the trees even richer. The eddy captured in this scene was almost imperceptible to the eye. For this long exposure, I used a neutral density filter, darkening the scene and driving a two-minute exposure. Fortunately, the winds were light so the leaves and branches remained still avoiding unnecessary distractions. I returned to this spot six months later in the spring and did not find the scene as enchanting as it was on this fall day.
