Indian Lake State Park
Indian Lake History
All Ohio History starts with the Native American who once populated the area. The proximity of the Miami River led generations to call this region home. As pioneers turned into settlers, new transportation concepts took hold. The Miami River in this area grew to 1,000 acres. The lake eventually became known as Lewistown Reservoir. With the growth of railroads and decline of canals, in 1898 the Ohio General Assembly dedicated the now 6,334-acre lake as a Indian Lake. Designated as a state park in 1950, Indian Lake quickly became a beloved destination for locals and visitors alike, offering a wealth of activities such as boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, and camping. Its vast expanse of parkland and pristine waters reflects a commitment to conservation and environmental stewardship, making it a treasured natural sanctuary.
