New Bremen Ohio

New Bremen, Ohio was founded in 1837 by Bavarian and Hanoverian immigrants.  The 33 Founders started in Cincinnati, formed the City of Bremen Society, drew up a charter and proceeded north to establish a farming community on 80 acres in German Township.  The land was difficult to traverse and swampy where settlers were plagued by malaria.  The completion of the Miami and Erie Canal changed the town by lower transportation costs.  Today, the city still embraces its German heritage and canal infrastructure.
