History of Bellbrook Ohio and Sugarcreek Township

Sugarcreek Township was established in May 1803, two months after the State of Ohio and Greene County were formed in March 1803.  Stephen Bell, Henry Opdyke and James Clancey platted village in 1815.  The village and township are defined by large creeks called the Sugarcreek and the Little Sugarcreek and the Little Miami River which holds National Scenic River status.  Bellbrook draws its name from Stephen Bell and the Sugar Creek.  Bellbrook was once called Magnetic Springs for its healing waters.  Today, Bellbrook is a small city on the outskirts of the greater Dayton area giving its residents access to big city conveniences while living among the rolling hills and open spaces.

  • Morris Reserve:  An amazing park where I’ve visited so much, there are two galleries capturing all the pleasing scenes.
  • Sweet Arrow Reserve:  Another large Bellbrook park
  • Bellbrock Park:  Bellbrook’s oldest park and home of the Magnetic Springs Hotel
  • Bellbrook Historical Museum:  Across from Bellbrook Park, the museum holds many treasures where this gallery captures before and after images of its recent restoration

Fine Art Photography of Bellbrook Ohio

Several of these art prints have sold well.  In 2023, the State of Ohio put out a call for art.  They wanted photography that shows Ohio at its most beautiful:  winter, spring, summer & fall.  They received 339 submissions and selected 20.  Two of these prints hang in the Rhodes State Office Building in Columbus.  Still, if you’d like to see more of the area’s pretty spots, check out these galleries.
