Sunlight on Stone Stairway in Francine’s Garden, Oakwood Ohio No. 2
The Story: In the midst of Oakwood, Ohio lies this peaceful spot called Francine’s Garden. While exploring Centennial Park at Houk Stream one evening, I encountered this small garden. Her family erected this memorial to Francine Christine Theodora Ader van der Hoeven in 2009, stating she was the loving wife of Ludolph van der Hoeven. It also states that as a child prodigy, she entered medical school in the Netherlands at the age of 15. Francine created this garden, and, in her passing, her family honored her by restoring her garden and then donating it to the City of Oakwood. On this summer day, I was mesmerized by how the golden light cascaded down the stone steps and the surrounding trees gently filtered the evening sun. I think Francine would have enjoyed this peaceful setting.
