Brief Overview of Southeast Ohio
Southeast Ohio holds some of the state’s deepest roots, shaped by early settlement, agriculture, and the rugged Appalachian foothills. This region developed through small towns, family farms, and industries tied closely to the land… timber, stone, and fertile valleys along the Scioto and Hocking watersheds. Generations have worked this landscape with intention, leaving behind structures, paths, and traditions that continue to define the character of the region today.

Hocking Hills State Park: Known for its sandstone cliffs, waterfalls, and forested hollows, Hocking Hills preserves some of Ohio’s most dramatic and peaceful natural landscapes.
Hopewell Culture National Historical Park: Located near Chillicothe, this nationally protected site preserves ancient earthworks created by the Hopewell culture and represents one of the most significant archaeological landscapes in North America.
Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks: Recognized internationally for their cultural importance, these ceremonial mounds reflect the deep Indigenous history embedded in the Scioto River Valley which includes the site above.
