Kettering’s Veterans Memorial at Delco Park No. 1
The Story: Today’s Delco Park in Kettering Ohio owes its existence to the family of Charles F. Kettering. In 1953, Delco expanded its Dayton footprint into what is now Kettering Ohio. After the plant was constructed, the company created the Delco Sportsman’s Club which hosted 24,000 people at its company picnic the following year. Years later as Delco sold its properties, Virginia Kettering lobbied General Motors to donate the land to the city. Today, Delco Park is one of several parks operated by the City of Kettering Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Arts Department where it features a lake, walking paths and the Kettering Veteran’s Plaza, and the C.F. Kettering History Walk. On this summer day, the flags from Kettering Veteran’s Plaza flutter in the gentle breeze as wispy clouds pass through the blue sky.
