Myrmecochory (Ant Completing the Germination Cycle) No. 2
The Story: I almost discarded this image in post-processing once I saw an ant had photobombed my composition. In confirming the flower species, I discovered the term Myrmecochory. It’s the process which plants rely on ants to complete the germination process. The ants use the pulp as nourishment and carry the “fruit” back to their underground nest where they later discard the seeds. With the Dutchman Breeches (Dicentra cucullaria) seeds buried securely in the ground, they are perfectly poised for next season’s germination sequence.
