The Story:     Paul Laurence Dunbar serves as another famous resident of Dayton, Ohio. His parents moved to Dayton following their emancipation from Kentucky following the Civil War. As a poet, novelist, and playwright he was one of the first African-Americans to gain an international reputation. Today, the home he purchased for his mother and where he lived until his death serves as a National Historic Site.
