Horace Mann Monument
The Story: Horace Mann remains a highly celebrated educator throughout the United States. After serving in the Massachusetts House of Representatives, Senate, and the Board of Education, he later became US Senator. Following public service, he became the first president of Antioch College, Yellow Springs, Ohio. In 1936, Hugh Taylor Birch erected this monument in what later formed Glen Helen Nature Preserve. As it has for the last 80 years, the bronze statue stood tall in the midday sun.
