Cedar Cliff Falls in Spring No. 8

The Story:       Cedar Cliff Falls resides in Indian Mound Reserve under the management of the Greene County Parks & Trails system, near Cedarville, Ohio.  The previous year, the park district constructed the boardwalk and overlook giving visitors an impressive view as Massie Creek spills into the gorge below. On this perfect spring day, Ohio’s lush green vegetation surrounds the water feature and cumulus clouds hang in the blue azure skies.

The Rest of the Story:   Since capturing this perfect day, I’ve revisited Cedar Cliff Falls and have yet to find it as pretty.   Perhaps it was the park construction of the previous year where they cleared out most of the vegetation.  Maybe the right amount of rain fell in 2020 under ideal temperatures that favored the purple Dame’s Rocket (Hesperis matronalis) flowers.   During these other trips, I found recent rains had muddied the water or the lack of rain led to a reduced water flow, but the conditions were prime on this late May day.   Finally, in the years since, wildfire smoke rendered Miami Valley skies in an opaque white haze.   One of the joys of being a landscape photographer lies in being there on the days when it all comes together.  I certainly enjoyed this day!
