Grotto Gardens, Dayton VA Medical Center No. 2
The Story: In addition to caring for US military veterans, the grounds of the Dayton VA Medical Center hold other key features. One venue entails the Grotto Gardens which were built by Civil War Veterans to provide visitors with a peaceful place for a relaxing stroll. The gardens were built on the quarry site used to build the nearby Protestant Chapel. As the historic garden fell into disrepair, the site was reclaimed in 2014 by the Montgomery County Master Gardener volunteers and the American Veterans Heritage Center.
