The Story:     Fernald Preserve is an Office of Legacy Management site run by the Department of Energy. The former Fernald Feed Materials Production Center was a Cold War, uranium ore processing facility that infamously became a Superfund site. The government spent $4.4 billion cleaning up the former nuclear facility and today holds wetlands, lakes, and grasslands that once again host wildlife.
