Chicken of the Woods Fungus No. 2
The Story: While walking through the nature preserve at Mount Saint John, Beavercreek, Ohio, a fallen tree displays this vivid orange fungus. Scientifically it’s known as Laetiporus sulphureus, but its common name is chicken of the woods, chick mushroom, or chicken fungus. Its bright orange shelves are edible and reportedly can be used as a chicken substitute.
