Sunburst over Glen Helen Reserve, Yellow Springs, Ohio

The Story:      In 1929, Hugh Taylor Birch donated 1,000 acres of land in memory of his daughter, Helen Birch Bartlet, creating the largest private nature reserve in the region.  Today, Glen Helen, near Yellow Springs, Ohio, hosts many natural features including the village’s namesake springs, old-growth forest, the Cascades waterfall, and many trails.  On this autumn evening, the golden sun warmly illuminates the forest floor.
