Prairie Dock, Fernald Preserve No. 10

The Story:      On the grounds of a former uranium processing site called Fernald Feed Materials Production Center the Department of Energy has established a prairie. Of the many species now growing on the former superfund site, this Prairie Dock (Silphium terebinthinaceum) features a thick stock with medium size yellow flowers that is part of the Aster Family.
