Odd Fellows Home of Ohio No. 5
The Story: Springfield, Ohio holds many architecturally significant structures including the Odd Fellows Home of Ohio. The Odd Fellows was a fraternal organization dedicated to helping those in need. From their first US lodge in 1819, they grew to over 11,000 US lodges by 1897. In 1896, the Grand Lodge hired 20th-century architects, J. W. Yost and F. L. Packard of Columbus, Ohio to design a home to admit aged Odd Fellows, their widows, and orphans. Today, the home represents Renaissance and Chateauesque architecture, resides on the National Register of Historic Places, and operates under the Grand Lodge of Ohio where it still provides nursing care for the elderly.
