National Museum of the USAF Presidential Gallery

The Story:      The Presidential Gallery at Dayton Ohio’s National Museum of the USAF holds the historical fleet of Air Force One aircraft which have transported America’s Presidents to a host of historical events. This image features VC-137C (serial number 62-6000), also known as SAM 26000. The elegant paint scheme was developed by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy and famous industrial designer, Raymond Loewy. On the day President Kennedy was assassinated this aircraft carried Kennedy’s body back to Washington, D.C., and a grieving nation.
