McMillen Angel in Winter, Woodland Cemetery

The Story:      Woodland Historic Cemetery and Arboretum in Dayton, Ohio holds the McMillen Angel. Asa McMillen was a woolen machinery manufacturer. The family commissioned this angle to be sculptured in Italy’s white Carrera marble while the base consists of grey, Dayton Limestone. The angle was sculptured to hold a rag in her left hand indicating she had just wiped the slate clean…forgiving past sins. I selectively removed the brown tones from this image making the white marble and snow and dark limestone more emphasis.
