The Story: The Dawes Arboretum lies in Licking County, south of Newark, Ohio. The garden started in 1917 as Bertie and Beman Dawes purchased their 140-acre farm called Daweswood. Today their farm now welcomes 270,000 visitors a year to see their 15,000 trees, shrubs, and plants. On this perfect June day, their Japanese Garden, designed by Dr. Makoto Nakamura, offered the ideal sport for peace and solitude.
