Frozen Sunset Over Cowan Lake No. 3
The Story: Cowan Lake State Park, near Wilmington, Ohio, is named for the region’s first surveyor, John Cowan. Prior to the survey, the lands served as home to the Adena and a millennia later, the Shawnee. William Smalley cleared the land in 1797 and the lake’s dam was construed in 1950 creating Cowan Lake and Ohio made it a state park in 1968. On this winter evening, the sun’s golden light raked across the lake’s frozen features.
