Dayton Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park No. 1
The Story: The Dayton Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park was dedicated on 26 May 1986 on land donated by the City of Dayton to honor Vietnam Veterans from the Greater Dayton area. The construction of this memorial was based on a battlefield promise. “If you make it home and I don’t, promise you won’t forget me.” These words were a plea from Cpl. James Vroom of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, to Sgt. Ron Riggs of Dayton. Shortly afterward, Vroom saved Riggs’ life, was wounded doing so and died two days later.” This memorial is a result of this battlefield promise.
