Autumn Stroll Under the Osage Orange Tunnel, Sugarcreek MetroPark No. 4

The Story:     Another Dayton-area gem lies in Sugarcreek MetroPark (Sugarcreek Township Ohio, near Bellbrook Ohio).  The Osage Orange Tunnel serves as a treat any time of year, but on this autumn morning, the sun’s azimuth aligned with the iconic trail which warmly backlights the golden leaves creating a visual wonder.

The Rest of the Story:   I’ve envisioned this shot and it took a series of trips under I finally captured this scene.  For me, it was trial and error.  There is an ideal narrow window in capturing this trail where the leaves a too green, to suddenly complete their verticle migration.  On this morning, l finally got it right.  But did you know, this scene comes about from the time before the invention of barbwire?   The park once served as farmland where the use of Osage Orange trees was employed as natural fence lines due to the density of the trees.  In the years since, the vegetation has reclaimed the land and fortunately, landowners preserved some of the oldest trees in Ohio.  Today, this part of the park is known as Dayton’s Tree Tunnel and serves as a favored spot for residents of Centerville and the Miami Valley.  If you’d like to see more enchanting art prints from this park, visit my Sugarcreek MetroPark Gallery.
