A Celebration of Cycling at Twilight

The Story:      The Dayton area enjoys 340 miles of bike paths that crisscross the Miami Valley. In fact, Dayton was ranked first in Outside Magazine as “America’s Best Towns Ever” for all its outdoor amenities. Thanks to its famous sons, Wilbur and Orville Wright, the Gem City has a beloved history with bicycling. When it came time to commission a statue, Jerome B. Meadows created, “A Celebration of Bicycling”. This image captures a winter-time sunset from its overlook of the Great Miami River and the Great Miami River Recreational Trail.

Description

A modern sculpture celebrating bicycling stands along the Great Miami River Trail during a richly colored sunset. The rider’s outstretched arms strike joyous pose as if expressing excitement over the brief and brilliant display of color along the Dayton Ohio skyline.

Another Dayton Ohio landmark entails a sculpture residing along the Great Miami River Trail called “A Celebration of Bicycling”. The Jerome B. Meadows statue draws inspiration from Dayton’s favored sons Wilbur and Orville Wright who operated several bike shops in the Dayton before pursuing their aviation aspirations. Today the sculpture sits adjacent to Dayton History’s Carillon Historical Park. On this evening, clearing skies arrived at sunset displaying brilliant colors for a few minutes before yielding to the oncoming blue hour.
