2nd Fighter Squadron Memorial, National Museum of the US Air Force

The Story:      A memorial to the 2nd Fighter Squadron that was also known as, “The American Beagle Squadron.” In the early days of WWII when the Allies were fighting in Africa, the US Army 52nd Fighter Group flew British Spitfires under a Lend-Lease Agreement. On this fall day, the morning sunlight illuminates the autumn leaves and silhouettes the memorial which consists of two spitfires entering a verticle climb.
