Wright Brothers Catapult System, Huffman Prairie

The Story:     Huffman Prairie serves as the site where Wilbur and Orville Wright solved the challenges of controller flight. Today, this portion of Wright-Patterson AFB is part of the National Park System. Formally called the Huffman Prairie Flying Field, it is also part of Dayton’s Aviation Trail. In this image, the signage indicates where the Wright Brothers erected their hangar housing the Wright Flyer.
