The Story: On this summer day, many patches of Surprise Lilies (Lycoris squamigera) populate the gardens of Cox Arboretum MetroPark, near Englewood, Ohio. The species is part of the amaryllis family and is sometimes referred to as naked ladies, magic lily, and resurrection lily. The species features pink flowers, hot pink stigma and yellow anthers. The flower emerges and blooms in four to five days which leads to its name, the Surprise Lily.
