The Story: Magnolia stellata, sometimes called the star magnolia, is a small tree native to Japan. Some maintain the plant as a shrub. In either form, its one of the first trees to bloom in spring and presents fragrant flowers with long white petals. As with most blooming trees, its flowers only last a few days before yielding to its green leaves. The tree possesses an open-branch structure which also produces compositionally pleasing lines.
