Piqua’s River Edge Trail
The Story: At the crossing of the Great Miami River Trail and the Ohio to Indiana Bike Trail in Piqua, Ohio, lies a small rest stop for bicyclists. In 2017, residents funded the Piqua Love Locks designed by Mike Brookhart. The structure draws inspiration from a love lock structure in Paris where lovers write messages on a padlock, attach it to the structure, and then threw away the key. On this spring day three years later, a host of endearing messages adorn the Piqua Love Locks structure near Lock 9 Park.

Description

An elevated view of Piqua Ohio’s River Edge Trail as captured from the old railroad bridge that once spanned the Great Miami River. As railroad lines were abandoned, the City of Piqua worked to reuse the old railroad bridge as bike trails which now populate Ohio. On this spring day, the Ohio to Indiana trail cuts westward under maple trees about to drop their twirly seeds.
