Orville Wright Propeller Shop No. 5

The Story:     As the Wright Brothers continued refining their airplane, they sold their interest in their bicycle shop and formed the Wright Company. Partnering with financiers in New York, Orville eventually grew weary of the arrangement and closed the company and opened this location on 15 North Broadway Street, Dayton Ohio. This building was the Wright Aeronautical Lab where Orville conducted scientific research and consulted on various projects until his death in 1948. Placards on site indicated the building fell into disrepair and was later demolished. As Dayton re-established its interest in its aviation roots, it erected this replica facade to honor Orville’s achievements.
