Lord Guard and Guide the Men Who Fly Stained-glass Window, National Museum of the USAF
The Story: Within the National Museum of the US Air Force in Dayton Ohio, resides this stained-glass window with words, “Lord Guard and Guide the Men Who Fly.” This window once was part of the chapel at Wheelus Air Base, Libya. The personnel assigned to the 7272nd Air Base Wing in Tripoli wanted to commemorate the B-24 crew of the “Lady Be Good”. The crew flew their first WWII mission over Italy before returning to Libya. Due to a sandstorm over northern Africa, the crew missed Wheeler Field and became lost. The airplane and eventually most of the crew were found throughout the late 1950s.
