John H. Patterson Monument in Autumn Light, Hills and Dales MetroPark No. 5
The Story: This memorial honors John Henry Patterson erected on his former lands that is now called Hills and Dales MetroPark. He was the founder of the National Cash Register which provides jobs to generations of Dayton residents. When the Great Flood of 1913 washed away the city government, he briefly assumed control and began organizing Dayton’s disaster response as well as marshaling all NCR resources, saving many lives. He left a lasting impact on Dayton via institutions he created 100 years ago that still benefit the Miami Valley even today. This monument memorializes his life, leadership, and entrepreneurship as well as his love for riding horses.
