Devils Tower National Monument No. 2

The Story:     Since its discovery by white explorers, the labeling of Devils Tower remains at odds with native Americans who knew this landmark as Bear Lodge, or others from a bear dwelling, depending on the dialect. They derived the name from the obvious claw marks (formed by the igneous intrusion) as legendary bears tried climbing after children escaping the chase. During this golden hour image, the sun’s warm rays rake across its distinctive columnar joints.
