The Story: The Chapel of the Holy Cross owes its existence to rancher and sculptor Marguerite Brunswig Staude. Wanting to build something grand, she brought in architects Richard Hein and August K. Strotz in building a Catholic Church just inside the Coconino National Forest. This wide-angle view captures the coarse-aggregate concrete which builders sandblasted revealing its unique color and texture as a Keith Monroe crucifix sculpture stands in front of the church’s back windows.
